Reynold B. Johnson was born in 1906. He was an American inventor and computer pioneer.He was long employed at IBM. He was called the father of hard drives. Also his invented and videotape too.

While a science professor in Michigan, he invented an electronic test machine that recognized pens made by Columbia University by Professor Benjamin D. Wood.IBM purchased the rights to this invention and hired him as an engineer. The machine was sold under the name IBM 805 Test Scoring Machine in 1937.

Johnson retired in 1971. He has made more than 90 patents.He died in 1998.
